Last May, fifteen people came together in Reykjavík to write, share, and listen. They brought different languages and life experiences to the room. By the end of the weekend, each person had written a poem. Those poems became Languages of the Heart.

In September, the poems were performed with music in five languages, shared with family, friends, and the wider community. Now the album is available on more than 150 streaming platforms.

Musicians María Viktoría Einarsdóttir, Sigrún Kristbjörg Jónsdóttir, and Geoffrey Stekelenburg created a unique track for each poem, working in collaboration with the poets to bring their words into music. The album cover is designed by Dumitrița Simion, whose bold colours and expressive brushwork bring a visual voice to Languages of the Heart.

The project was supported by the Development Fund for Immigrant Issues and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing. We’re grateful to everyone who shared a poem, helped shape the music, and supported the project.
