Hi, my name is Kristján Friðjónsson.
Over the years, I’ve been given and have taken on many roles and labels. Some I’ve let go of, while others continue to travel with me. Among those that remain are, in no particular order: human, brother, son, uncle, friend, advocate, caring, sincere, honest, artistic… sometimes a tornado, sometimes shallow, sometimes deep.
More relevant to what we’re doing here are the “peer hats” I wear. I’ve worked as a peer educator at the Icelandic Recovery College since 2018. I completed IPS Core Training in 2023, followed by IPS Facilitator Training later that same year. Since then, I’ve continued engaging in IPS Book Studies and Co-Reflection, as well as facilitating IPS Core Trainings myself.
I grew up in a small town by the sea and on a farm, and later moved to Reykjavík, where I’ve spent most of my life. Along the way, I’ve worked in manual labor, factories, offices, at sea, in IT, and in care work—probably a few other things too that I’ve forgotten to mention.
What drives me most is community building and an ongoing curiosity about the human condition in all its forms. I’m passionate about connecting people—with each other, with new ideas, and with different ways of doing things.
When I’m not working, I try to take care of myself… or at least aim in that direction. That can mean cooking, doing chores, attempting to be a responsible adult—or simply doing nothing at all. Preferably without judgment. Because sometimes being lazy is exactly what’s needed. Humans are lazy. True story.
